Altos Las Hormigas was founded in 1995 by a team of Italian and Argentinean wine professionals.  The driving person was Antonio Morescalchi who set a very early and high bar of quality for the estate.  First the investment was in the vineyards in the "Primera Zona" of Lujan de Cuyo.  Vineyards were planted between 1996 and 1999 with the finest selected clones of the area.  Tremendous amount of work was done to imporve viticultural and farming methods in the area to maximize the tremendous potential of the Mendoza Malbec.

The winery wasn't completed until 2001 and at this point the dreams of Antonio's team really began to take shape.  With total control over production the already quality wines began a march forward which is still happening today.  Estate vineyards and getting older, and the fact that they have been here 10 years before todays "rush" they have established great partnerships with local farmers and have a decade of experience in the great sources of purchased fruit outside there estate fruit.  Talking with Antonio you really appreciate the insight the Italian team has brought to the table,  as Mendoza is blessed with tremendous amount of sun and water.
