The August Briggs Winery is located in Calistoga just a few yards off of the Silverado Trail in the
Napa
Valley . In 2002 the property was purchased and the development of their state-of-the-art winery began. Winemaker August “Joe” Briggs is the proprietor and heart behind this operation.
Joe Briggs discovered his passion for wine in college during a visit to a winery in the
Napa
Valley . After this visit he transferred schools to enroll in an enology program. After graduation he moved to Oregon where his first job was for a small winery in the
Willamette
Valley . During his stay in Oregon he appreciated the opportunity and what the area had to offer but felt his calling was in
California . After working at for a few wineries in California Joe opened August Briggs in 1995.
Their first releases consisted of an 800 case production of Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. They have now grown into a mid-size
California winery with an annual production around 6,000 cases. They produce around 15 different products from Pinot Noir to Syrah to Pinot Meunier, to name a few. Production on each of their products is kept low, around 200-400 cases per year. This allows Joe to dabble in different varietals from various vineyards in the Napa and
Sonoma areas.
