Larry Turley, owner of Turley Wine Cellars, began producing old vine Zinfandels in 1993 with three different bottlings.  The following year he added two more Zinfandels along with Sauvignon Blanc and a Petit Sirah and has kept adding special vineyard specific wines to the portfolio. Ehren Jordan, winemaker and owner of Failla wines, is the current winemaker for Turley Wine Cellars.  He joined the team in 1994 and has been producing the ever popular Zinfandels in Cabernet country ever since.

A surprising number of the old-vine vineyards that Turley is now focusing on are still producing in California , and many of them date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. They have survived because their owners have held onto the properties and planted new vineyards from scratch, which is easier than uprooting the old vines. Turley is a believer in achieving the maximum from the various grapes and vineyards.  Yields in the vineyards, for example, are suppressed in hopes of producing a more flavorful grape.
