Ownership of the winery is controlled by the Pastrana family.  In an area with tremendous potential for quality, but somewhat forgotten in Spain. The Pastrana family aims for high-quality, low-yields, and non-intrusive winemaking techniques. It is starting to pay off with the recognition by the Spanish press as being one of the great wineries of Spain.

The winery is located in the hills next to the Siurana River (Costers del Siurana) in the town of Gratallops, province of Tarragona. The vineyards are planted on 28.8 acres located on the slopes of the hills on the banks of the Siurana River, 1,050 ft. above sea level.

It is important to note that only half of the acreage is useful for planting because they are on such steep slopes. The area is surrounded by mountains of 2,000 to 3,000 feet. The density of planting is from 708-833 vines per acre. The soil is mostly Metamorphic slate, dating from the carboniferous period, with some quartz. The climate is Mediterranean, with continental influence; very dry.  Average temperature in winter 47°F, snow and frost. Average in summer is 90°F, although in summer fluctuations are big between night and day.
