The 2009 Atteca is a classic warm-climate Garnacha from Spain.  Old vines ranging from 80 to 100 years old, this is an incredible value from the Jorge Ordonez portfolio.

Only the finest grapes of the harvest are selected and fermented in stainless steel, then the wine matures in French oak for 12 months.

Iron rich clay soils in the dry region of Calatayud yield a Garnacha of dark color and deep flavors.  Grown at nearly 3000 feet in elevation the warm days are tempered by very cool nights, keeping natural acidity high and balancing the ripe fruits.

This is a full bodied and rich wine, wonderful dark fruits and rich texture.  Wines of this quality and price continue to put Spain at the forefront of wine value.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar : 91 Nov 2010

"Deep, bright ruby. Intense red and dark berry aromas are complemented by potpourri and smoky herbs. Broad, palate-coating dark fruit flavors become brighter with air and show a distinctly spicy character. Finishes with very good clarity and juicy persistence, repeating the berry and spice notes. This is a remarkable value. These vines are reportedly between 85 and 125 years old and yield less than a kilogram per vine."
