Azelia's holdings in Bricco Fiasco are a mere 2.5 Ha and produce 830 cases a year. Most of their holdings are in the upper part of the vineyard and have a south exposure. It's a small hill that is considered one of the finest sites in Castiglione Falletto. Five producers have holdings here and Azelia's are contiguous with Vietti and Paolo Scavino. The soil here is predominately the blue tinted Tortonian sandy marl. Fermented 18 days on the skins and aged 24 months in small French oak barrels. This wine is a hallmark of the estate and might be the wine it is most famous for. The winery is located just a few hundred meters from Bricco Fiasco, while the rest of the single vineyard bottlings come from Serralunga. Which gives this winery a unique situation to produce wines from both the hard and soft sides of Barolo.

The 2006 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is simply magnificent. It, too, is impressively powerful, but here the layers of flavor are beautifully filled out. Exotic, ripe red fruit, smoke and menthol are but a few of the nuances that gradually emerge as this refined and impeccably elegant wine rises from the glass. The French oak is beautifully integrated, while the wine’s weight and sheer harmony leave a lasting impression. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.
