This wine comes from 9.6 acres of proprietary vineyards that are over 50 years old, Los Terrenos and Jarrarte, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, organically fertilized. Soils are calcareous clay with gravel. They are oriented to the southeast maximizing their exposure to the sun. Very careful hand harvesting of perfectly healthy and mature clusters and additional selection made in the winery using a sorting table.
Deep red. Powerful strawberry, raspberry and floral oil aromas are positively room-filling, with pungent herbs and vanilla adding interest. In the mouth, pure red fruits deliver major flavor impact without any excess weight. Spicy redcurrant and cinnamon flavors linger on the suave, very long finish. There's nothing wrong with drinking this now.
Temperature controlled fermentation and extended maceration for 25 days with two pump-overs daily during the first 8 days and a light pump-over every two days after that. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 18 months in new 225L barrels of 50% American, 50% French oak. Bottled unfiltered.

Made in a more international style, the wine is opaque purple with aromas of toasty new oak, pencil lead, espresso, blackberry, and licorice. This leads to a full-bodied, layered Rioja with lots of spicy black fruits, a hint of chocolate, and enough ripe tannin to support 5-7 years of evolution in the cellar. The lengthy, pure finish suggests that this wine will have a bright future.
