Altare Barolo is a blend of fruit from La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga.  While this is a very dense and fruit packed Barolo, it is a wine that can age for 20 years no problem.  It seems to possess that paradox of being enjoyable young and having the ability to age effortlessly.  The blend of comunes gives the wine tremendous depth and balance between the supple, soft side of Barolo in La Morra and the hard, structured side of Barolo in Serralunga.

Aged in a combination of used and new wood the wine shows considerable restraint and a gorgeous combination of sweet, savory, spice, tannin and power.  The Serralunga vineyards were added in 2005 and it will be great to watch the master of La Morra begin to work with a brand new commune with an entirely different expression of Nebbiolo.

"The 2007 Barolo is simply breathtaking. A bouquet that recalls Pinot Noir melds into pure Nebbiolo fruit as this captivating, sensual Barolo reveals off its pedigree. This shows remarkable detail, nuance and sheer clarity, with gorgeous depth and a radiant, totally engaging personality. Most of the attention here is generally focused on the single-vineyard wines, but readers should not look past the straight Barolo, a wine that has built an extraordinary track record for developing beautifully in bottle."
