Altos Las Hormigas Malbec is a blend of estate and purchased fruit.  The estate fruit is from Lujan de Cuyo township in Mendoza.  This "Primera Zona" is regarded as the finest part of Mendoza, the vineyards are over 800 meters in elevation, the Malbec here is exposed to great temprature swings and produces deep and complete wines.  The purchased fruit is from the Val de Uco area that is Mendoza's highest - at 1000 meters the Malbec here has firmer acidity and is fantastic to blend with and preserve freshness in the wine

Grapes from different vineyards are vinified separately before the final blend. The destemmed and softly pressed grapes are vinified in stainless steel vats at 28º Celsius. During the 15 day fermentation-maceration process the must is pumped over and punched down for optimal extraction. Free run juice only. The wine is bottled without any form of stabilization or filtration.  Maturation of the wine occurs 50% in American Oak for 3 months is blended back with the other 50% peserved in stainless steel.  After bottled wine is released in 3 months.
