Ruby-red. Huge, room-filling bouquet of fresh raspberry and strawberry, boysenberry, violet and magnolia, with suave Asian spices building with air. Deep dark berry liqueur-like flavors display striking intensity, with bracing acidity contributing shape and lift. Takes on a wild honeysuckle quality on the long, juicy finish, which leaves a strong impression of sweet dark berries. Very intriguing stuff.

The brilliant 2005 Syrah Hilltops is fermented and aged with pressings from the lees of their Roussanne grapes. This obviously adds some uplifted aromatics to the wine as well as complexity. This aromatic wine, with its floral, licorice, pepper, blackberry and cassis notes intermixed with some tropical fruit, is stunning in the mouth. Opulent, rich, with terrific fruit, impressive glycerin, and a heady, spicy finish with no hard edges, it is a brilliant, seamlessly constructed wine.
